read moreI would like to speak to this definition. One of the key words is cope. Coping speaks to our ability to manage our emotions and behaviors when dealing with a difficult situation. Some of us don’t know how to cope, so we use distractions to avoid what is too painful to face. The interesting thing about this is that our coping mechanisms are learned behaviors from our childhood and the environment in which we were raised. When we were younger, we saw how our parents or guardians reacted to tough situations. What we witnessed is what we came to believe as truth. As children we see everything, our vision is our primary source of data input for our brains. We may hear words but process more with what is tangible, what we can see right in front of us. This is a dangerous way to learn because what we see may not always be the truth. It just becomes our truth, our distorted interpretation of the truth. As we get a little older, say age 8, we can interpret what we believe to be true based on what we hear. All of this external information doesn’t begin to help us understand who we are and what is our truth. Living as an adult, it’s difficult to separate your truth from what you believed to be true as a child. As we developed our childlike truths grew with us. The distortion grew into its own truth. Now there are many of us believing that we are not enough, believing that we can’t do anything right, believing that we must be perfect in order to be worthy of love. That is all lies, perfection does not exist, you are enough exactly as you are, you are talented and can do many things right. Learning how to differentiate between the truth we were told and the truth of who we are today requires a lot of work. It requires you to face your own truth and the lies that are at the root of your pain. Then and only then can your work to live in your “RIGHT MIND.” Your right mind is living and walking in your own truth, free of the lies and pain that have held you hostage for most of your life.
